OpenSimulator is software that creates 3D virtual worlds, which you can set up for yourself or invite others to share. I've created tens of thousands of items for use in those virtual worlds.
Most players opt to use the services of commercial OpenSimulator providers such as DigiWorldz or Kitely, avoiding the hassle of compiling the software and maintaining it themselves. Joining an existing grid also means it's easier to meet other people and find help if you need it.
Start exploring OpenSimulator
All you need to start using OpenSimulator worlds is a decent desktop computer or laptop. Virtual Worlds are graphics-intensive so you'll definitely need a good graphics card.
Then, simply download a viewer. I personally use the free Firestorm viewer, which comes complete with .oxp import tools if you later decide to download any of my products to use in your world.Note: if you are trying to visit my simulator, I'm on the Digiworldz grid, and my region is Arius. Here's a teleport link which will (theoretically) open your viewer and take you there:
hop://login.digiworldz.com:8002/Arius/231/164/21
Failing that, just log into DigiWorldz, open your map, and type 'Arius'. Click on it, then 'teleport'. My avatar name is Xay Tomsen. See you there. 😁
Products for OpenSimulator
I've been in virtual worlds since 2006 during the early years of Second Life. That's where I built the first Irukandji Continent, which soon became the largest virtual world in the southern hemisphere.
In 2013, I relocated to the InWorldz grid, then later built my own grid, Reef VR, until finally in 2017, I moved to my present grid of choice, DigiWorldz.
During the past two decades, I've created 230+ regions (simulators), and 13,000 products. You can explore my shops in-world for the full 3D walk-through experience, or on the product pages below.
Further down the page, I've included some videos exploring the pros and cons of Opensimulator and other virtual worlds.
